The currently authorized vaccines to prevent COVID-19 in the United States require 2 shots to get the most protection:
- Pfizer-BioNTech doses should be given 3 weeks (21 days) apart
- Moderna doses should be given 1 month (28 days) apart
You should get your second shot as close to the recommended 3-week or 1-month interval as possible. However, there is no maximum interval between the first and second doses for either vaccine. You should not get the second dose earlier than the recommended interval.
The CDC recommends giving COVID-19 vaccine in phases, which may overlap
- Long Term Care Residents & Staff
- Health Care Workers Supporting Direct Inpatient Care
- Public Health Staff Conducting Front Line COVID-19 Pandemic Mitigation
- Oklahoma State Licensed Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
Phase 2:
Currently set to begin Feb 22, 2021 and will include:
- First Responders, Paid & Unpaid
- Health Care Workers Providing Direct COVID Outpatient Care & Services
- Adults age 65 & Older
- Adults of Any Age with Comorbidities
- Teachers & Staff in PreK-12 Schools & Educational Settings
- Staff & Residents in Congregate Locations & Worksites
- Public Health Staff Supporting Front Line Efforts

If you have had COVID within the past 90 days the CDC recommends you not get the vaccine at this time.
Please wear a mask and comfortable clothing with a sleeve that is easily raised. The shot will be given in the upper arm.
